Our New Additions, Simply Spiders

I am now the proud mummy to a Brachypelma vagans and a brachypelma auratum in other words a Mexican Red Rump tranchula and a Mexican Red Knee tarantula,

One is only incy wincy at the moment though and the other is not much bigger..

I have always had a thing for spiders although never held one before last month when I went to the local Invicta arachnid club meeting when I decided sod it I want to get one, anyway we went to the meeting again yesterday evening (its held the last Wednesday of every month) and because finances were very short this month, I had already said to Allan and the boys we couldn’t get one yet, so armed with enough cash to get the drinks and raffle tickets we went along.

I bought 3 strips of raffle tickets for a pound  (£) for the table raffle and two Australian raffle tickets (the way that works is the last ticket to be drawn wins the prize of £20).

Well we cleaned up 🙂 we won a dvd
and bottle of wine on the table raffle and ended up with two bottles of energy drinks because Charlotte won those and didn’t want them,

and  I won the Australian raffle (yay)  Sooooooooooooooooo

I went and spoke to someone who had some spiders for sale and to cut a long story short we  bought two spiders.

One baby one and one yearling, They are both ideal starter spiders and very easy to take care of so I’m told!

I have to admit I was a bit dubious about handling them,  funny enough the big spiders I am ok with it was the little one that was bothering me.

Anyway the problem was soon solved, as I was taking these pictures it ran over my hand and was quickly popped back into its pot..

Dreaming of a tidal wave coming

I don’t often remember my dreams I think I have had about two or three I remember in the last couple of years.

but last night I woken up by a scary dream around three in the morning.

We were at the seaside in some kind of holiday flats…

I remember vividly we were on the second floor facing a road on the other side of the road was the sea, outside the flat was patio doors which lead onto a communal balcony, the weather was beautiful that day. there was me and the boys , we were watching the sea when I noticed that it started getting a bit rough……

Then all I can do is describe it as a tidal wave appeared before us it went dark and as it got closer to the building I was the first one who saw the tidal wave at the window coming to our way so I warned the boys about it and told them to get into the back rooms, it got really dark just before the tidal wave splashed down. But for some reason, the tidal wave didn’t hit us, we were above it as it came down, the windows were splashed by the spray but the downstairs must have been totally under water and hit by it..

In the distance I saw another wave coming towards us only this time a much bigger one, We were so scared. I can still feel how scared I was leaning against the door holding it shut and the shouting at the boys to stay away..

We couldn’t do anything. All we could do then was scream and set ourselves ready for that ill-fated death just as it went that familiar dark I saw a man trying to get into our door, I felt if I opened it to him the water would come rushing in and drown us all so I kept pulling it shut sorry but my boys came first……..

The wave hit way above us but the windows held the water back… it was pitch black then after the dark and then got lighter… I could see through the window again there was nothing out there but sand on the balcony outside our door.. the waves got calmer and within a few mins the sun was shining and the sea was back to normal … all but the look of devastation around..

I remember staying in our flat for the rest of the day before we left and came out to the sea front to see the devastation of the building we were in… every balcony and room had their windows blown out except ours.. That was when I must have woken up I was in a hot sweat and lay there for about an hour afterwards… I can still remember every detail vividly ……… weird or what…..
I don’t know if it has anything to do with being ill at the moment or if something else has triggered it.

Tidal-Wave

The Grim reaper was close by honest.

How can I feel so Ill that I felt like I was going to die last night

I wouldn’t even go to bed on my own or stay downstairs on my own.

Allan kept saying while watching tv for me to go up and get in bed…

While I was lying on the sofa dozing on and off.

Then again later on when I said no I was going to bed he said ok then I will get the sleeping bag and sleep on the sofa…

Noooooooooooooooooo  I dont want to be on my own……….

Seriously I swear In a dream I saw the Grim Reaper. It scared me so much I swear I honestly thought I was going to die which is weird as im not as Ill as I was a few years ago..

And today l feel kinda okish .
At least not totally ill one second freezing cold and shivering even with the heating on full and having a blanket   finally dozing off and then waking up and   burning up I had to stand outside in the back garden for a few mins

just to cool down … we then went to bed and I slept solidly until 7am

Now I’m just constantly tired, even getting up and making a cup of coffee is a major effort.. but at least got my hair sorted even  if it was a quick squirt on, rub around head and leave for half an hour then wash off home kit (I am not grey and I refuse to be grey) so I feel better after doing that  … but the rest of the day is chill day

And no I am not an attention seeking drama queen honest , I know these people who say they are really really ill and then you see them and they have a cough and a sniffle and beyond that are fine  they are just screaming for attention…. that is not me…

oh hang on… sod it……..  I feel like crap so everyone should know…… pmsl

The return of the de-clutter has appeared, the loft has loads of space.

A few weeks before Christmas a friend of mine was told her landlord wanted to re insulate the loft… she had 30  years of clutter up there… her house made mine look minimalist..  It took them two weeks and two empty bedrooms to get everything down and sort it all out ready to be done…

That got me thinking… we had stuff to go up in the loft but the loft was full right up… floor to ceiling  and that was just ten years worth of stuff, Anyway Allan recruited the help of a friend of ours to come over and help him gets stuff sorted up there..

so David and Allan and I went up there the day before  yesterday and slowly moved things around… we had about 6 dvd players  4 video players… two old tv’s  old pc monitors and that was just a few bits…

Yes I know there is a fair amount of Christmas tree’s and decorations up there and of course our tents and loads of camping stuff.  and of course loads of other bits that were my mums but there was also a lot of stuff we didn’t even remember we had…

Why had we kept convector heaters that had a foot broken?  then we got to the baby stuff…

Now I admitted to myself a few years back that I wasn’t having any more kids so did pass on all the baby equipment to a couple of friends who were having babies…   I kept a cotbed and the hexagonal room-divider /playpen for any future use by grandchildren.. however the one thing I have never been able to part with was baby clothes for some reason… bearing in mind some of the stuff every one of my children have worn.. I had a togs grey baby grow that  was even put on Michael for a few hours, so it’s very special…

Yes I confess I kept that and a few of the very prem stuff i had  that are now a couple of carrier bags full but  The Attic is now devoid of six huge fit to burst black bin sacks full of baby clothes… It may have taken me 26 years to part with some of the bits but the time is right….. Besides there is another special little girl who can wear them now and any little brothers or sisters she may have in the future.

It all went to Charlotte for Shelby~Anne  so in a way I guess i feel ok about it as I know it may seem weird but I will see them worn now…..  I feel like a chapter in my life has closed but I don’t actually feel bad about it…    Now after two tip runs full, boxes of stuff to freegle,  and a landrover full of stuff that went to David and Charlotte’s (along with the clothes) not to mention a land rover full of old tvs and stuff and old metal beds that went to Ambers boyfriend for scrap metal.
I was going to do a boot fair but really we just want it out the way asap… we have this huge space in the middle of the loft…… and I’m already planning on what can go up there now out of my way… the next step is declutter my room and then work on swapping the boys and Ambers room over…  so she is in the smaller room and they are in the bigger one..   this is work in progress but I am so impressed how much stuff I have convinced Allan to part with ..
So all the stuff that we have decided to keep is now stacked tidy on the sides and all the cardboard boxes were flat packed and Allan took them to the recycle point with the rest of the cardboard he has collected for the scouts… (will go into detail another day but he is now a scout leader and does all the driving of the scout van collecting paper and cardboard for the scouts to recycle and the money is split between the beavers, cub’s and scouts for any equipment they need) oh and I have a front garden fill to take up the tip…..

Watch this space……… soon this will no longer be the house of the hoarders we will be organised but with probably more stuff than anyone else lol

Valentine’s Day Aishiteru

Ask any self-respecting Japanese woman what she has planned for Valentine’s, and she’ll tell you that it’s all been set — the chocolates, gifts, and dinner, all prepared and paid for, by her. On Barentain Dei, women take the initiative to shower their honmei or sweethearts with gifts, profess their love, and humour their male classmates and colleagues with giri-choco or obligation chocolates. For teenagers it’s a bitter-sweet initiation into romance and courtship, where girls brave a few burns to learn the art of tempering molten chocolate to create one-of-a-kind treats for the captain of the baseball team. For the more weathered, it’s about raiding Godiva for their lovers and husbands, and picking up cheaper consolation prizes for the lesser males in their lives.

The men, by the way, don’t have to do a thing for the women on Feb. 14. Not till Mar. 14, http://www.tofugu.com/2012/03/14/white-day-japan/

How a lovers’ holiday in the west turned into a quasi-feminist chocolate orgy is unclear. The the first Valentine’s sale in Japan took place in 1958 and Tokyo chocolatier Mary Chocolate’s event generated 150 yen total in sales (the company sold three bars of chocolate in three days). Nevertheless, the marketing opportunity would not be lost in translation.

Men do not get an entirely free ride. In the late 1970s a number of confectionery company CEOs got together to try to figure out how to get a piece of the chocolate pie. Their equal opportunity marketing gimmick was to come up with “White Day” on March 14th, where the men are obliged to reciprocate for their Valentine’s gifts by purchasing candies and cookies. Easy enough? Well, maybe not. Expectations have grown since the 70s. According the polls, what women expect on White Day, in order of preference, are jewellery, watches, and handbags. Van cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Louis Vuitton are not complaining.

Love equals money no matter the culture.

*Aishiteru means I Love You.

One of the most popular phrases in any language is probably, “I love you”. In Japanese, “love” is, “ai (愛)”, and the verb form “to love” is, “aisuru(愛する)”. “I love you” can be literally translated as, “aishite imasu (愛しています)”. “Aishiteru (愛してる)”, “aishiteru yo (愛してるよ)” or “aishiteru wa (愛してるわ, female speech)” is normally used in conversation. However, the Japanese don’t say “I love you” as often as people in the west do, mainly because of cultural differences.  I think this may be a good thing because I would rather someone showed me they loved me than told me constantly.

I have found the perfect soft toy for Ali

Every now and then you come across something that catches your eye and you sit there and think “you gotta be kidding” because you can’t believe anything like it was actually made, marketed and is wildly successful, but rarely you come across something that is all those things, and I’m going to tell you about it, when I stop crying and scratching my head.

Let me now introduce you now to Pee & Poo,  http://www.peeandpoo.com/
Not that you haven’t met before, but probably not in this way. Created by Swedish designer Emma Megitt as a college project, Pee & Poo became so amazingly popular that they have t-shirts and stuffed… no, not animals, (let’s just call them number one and number two, shall we?) better yet, t-shirts and plush pals were created to… um, cuddle with? They are meant to address body functions in an open and playful manner and have been an instant hit with kids and adults alike. Seriously?

Okay, I suppose they can be used for toilet training, or for adults who enjoy a little “potty” humour, ok what kid would actually really want one of these stuffed……erm toys you say..

Well the answer is MY KID.

Seriously as soon as I saw them I know Ali would love them  remember he doesn’t do toys but loves soft stuffed toys  , I saw these posted on the internet as just as stuffed poo and had to google and google until I found out where they came from (please no comments I didn’t mean like that) .. I mean where you buy it from . Anyway I posted the link on Facebook and straight away a close friend of mine said that would be right up her sons street……. and then my sister-in-law said her son would like it..

three other friends who I know via a Facebook group contacted me, all asking if I could find out a local stockist… yep their kids would love it to…. What is the common denominator between all these kids apart from the fact that they are a little strange because we know they would love the pee & poo soft toys… The fact that All are Autistic in some way… How weird is that… Anyway I found somewhere I can get them.. of eBay… (you gotta love that place)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=pee+and+poo&_sacat=0&_from=R40
so I have ordered a set and that’s another stocking filler put away for Christmas 2013 for Ali 🙂

Tried and tested method on how to get a 19yr old to tidy her bedroom

danger-messy-room-ahead

My stepdaughter has got to be the most minging person I have ever seen..  I don’t want to even say what I have found on her bedroom floor before but lets just say you know exactly what time of the month it is.

she leaves clothes all over the place,  she does nothing in the house and I mean Nothing..  The string that broke the camels back was when she brought down a huge tall basket full of dirty washing the day after I had done everything of ours… having told her to bring it down a couple of days before hand… In this huge basket were clothes that had not even been worn from the last time I washed them… because she couldn’t be bothered to put them away…   so I washed them… and put them back in her basket for her to hang on the clothes airer she has in her room.. I am on economy mode at the moment and avoiding using the tumble dryer.. I have only used it three times since last July.   Anyway I went upstairs the other day and I could smell something musty so opened her bedroom door and there was the basket of damp clothes still she hadn’t hung anything up and it was really starting to smell now.  plus the mattress that we bought brand new when we got her bed was covered in make up… the room was a tip… I am not house proud by all means but her room was disgusting.
that’s it I have had enough.. I’m on my early spring clean at the moment..  so I had done the boy’s room, well I say done… bearing in mind all their electrical stuff like mp3 players, tablets, ds’s and games etc live downstairs.. I threw everything away except stuffed toys (only because this is the only thing that all really does) I filled up 5 huge black sacks full which are now on the front waiting for the next tip run.    we had to go out so I typed out a note to leave on Ambers door… as it goes just as I was going to put it up she walked in… I handed it to her… she went straight upstairs.. this was 2pm….. she finished at 11pm  room done, dirty sheets downs stairs.. (they had never been washed and she put them on the bed about July time)    what did the trick you ask… this is what worked.
