Cars behaving badly

In the last week we have faced the challenge of All three cars being off the road at the same time..

Car one  Allan’s Corsa…….. Needed a new battery fitted and now starts so Allan can actually get to work and back at silly o’clock in the morning, without me having to drive him. The things I do for people…. and take my word for it.. going out at 4am to drive him to work and then again at 9pm to pick him up was not fun….

Car two My land-rover……. the starter motor all of a sudden gave up, well actually not all of a sudden. I went over to Maidstone with a friend.. we got back to the car park and when I went to start it the landy wouldn’t start, I shifted the gear lever, kicked whined , kept turning the key and eventually it started…  the next day Allan and I went to Asda’s and when we went to leave it wouldn’t start at all.  RAC man to the rescue and it was the starter motor… so order one from ebay and two days later……
New starter motor fitted by Allan and I… (yep I did my bit and have the bruises and oil on clothes to prove it ) thankfully that worked…

Car three (my dads car we borrowed while the landrover and the corsa was off the road..)  and I’m driving along going to the butcher in stockbury about 11am after driving Allan to work about 28 miles away so a nice round trip of about 60 miles,  took boys to school and then went shopping and of course.. that’s when the exhaust fell off….  oh deary deary me I thought… actually I didn’t I thought for fuck sake………Sooo  I called the RAC  (we certainly get our money worth out of that membership lol ) and they came out and gave it a good kick , WTF  I could have done that instead of waiting two hours for the twat to come…..  then it was a trip to kwik fit and another couple of hour wait while they get the right exhaust in as the first one delivered was the wrong one… . then it was a mad rush to go and get the boys from school.

£239 After

£239 After

So there we have it..  Mondeo with new exhaust system on and running.  Bonus for the old man as we had to pay for it as we were using it……
Landrover with brand new starter motor on..
Corsa with New Battery  (heavy-duty ) on … and while we were at it put new shocks and springs on front and back and a new exhaust tail pipe on it trying to de boy racer the car as the erm young lad who had it before us had lowered it right down and put the loudest exhaust on it going.

And with the exception of the exhaust on the mondeo we managed all by ourselves……..

I can deal with cars breaking down but next time Not all at the same time please…….

Where there is a will there is a way.

Over the years Allan has had many a job,  but if we go back to when we actually got together… he was a chef……….. He was a chef in Canterbury, and then when we moved to Sittingbourne and he ended up in the Quays  He got a job as Head Chef in the Red Lion in Bluetown.. he did this right up until I became really ill when Alex was a baby.. and I’m talking weeks old.  I had, had a sore throat but insisted on going to work.. Allan worked from 4pm till gone 1am by the time he cleared up and got home. I worked from 7am to about 2.30pm selling advertising and working for a local slr radio station.  we literally saw each other in passing, Passing Alex over. Allan looked after him while I was at work and I took over when I got back in.    Things were just starting to look up.. I had been offered temporary accommodation. a Three bedroom, house… We looked at it and straight away agreed… I got the keys Wednesday.. we moved the few bits we had in and I went to work in the morning and by lunchtime I was feeling so Ill, my boss told me to go straight to the doctors. I walked into the surgery to book an appointment and the nurse sent me straight into the doctor. who arranged a hospital bed for me at Medway hospital and told me to make my way there it would be quicker than ambulance…..  My throat and neck had swelled up.. I had this massive lump in my neck.

Anyway… result was Allan moved into a new house. looked after new baby and I was in hospital for at least a week.  When I got out of the hospital I couldn’t work for over two weeks. and when It was time to go back I decided to work from home…….. until Alex was about 3 months……..  Allan was working long hours and something had to give…..
He gave up being a chef and went to work for his brother-in-law landscape gardening.. the work was hard labour but the hours were a lot better.  Allan did this for quite a few years.. until his legs started playing up big time.. He has always had problems but with enough pain killers could plod along.  up until about two years or so ago when his brother in laws business started failing….  So Allan was put on the sick as he couldn’t sign on.
During this time… he kept himself busy.. he took his HGV test and got a Licence. He also became a scout leader and did some training… gained a SIA licence……  not to mention other bits and pieces.  and of course volunteering collecting cardboard for the scouts…

fast forward to now.. Allan started a confidence building course….
This course gave him the confidence he needed to get back into the swing of things….    and he decided that it was time to start looking for a new job but something different.  He wanted to make the most of what he had. his driving licence….. his SIA licence…….. And so started applying for jobs….. Everyone said he wouldn’t even get an interview.. but hey He Applied for 6 jobs…….. got 4 interviews, one just from dropping a cv off at a firm because someone said they were hiring drivers. …… and got offered 4 jobs……..  The problem is he still wanted something that would fit in with the hours he needed to do the scout stuff……….   one job didn’t have the driving job but they offered him a job working shifts………..  he decided that was not for him.. the others were good jobs but the distance to travel to London didn’t make it worth working.

So in short… here we are……..

Life as we know it may never be the same again……

After a major decision lately & looking for a Change of Direction in Life
Very Proud of Allan  Not bad going to 4 interviews in the last few weeks and each one resulted in the offer of the Jobs. Some Suitable some not so….
After deliberation… He has decided to take the one offered to him this afternoon at the interview…. and he started tonight. way to go.

— feeling very proud

Good hours,  Overtime when wanted……….  Distance not bad in comparison to others…….    and doing what he likes……….
Win Win… so now While I am typing.. he is working………..  weird………..

A Five Minute walk to Milton and a step back in time.

I have lived surrounding Milton Regis on and off since we first moved to the area when I was about 7 years old..  and in the whole time I had never ever been inside the court-house…….. I have always loved Milton as a village and the look of the historic buildings.. and I admit over the years It has got rather run down but the post office and Hall were always the most majestic buildings there… The post office is no longer a post-office but the building is still there and has been for 300/400 years..

I must find out one day

I have always been fascinated by history especially local history.. I don’t think the majority of people who live near Milton appreciate the history of the village  I used to live in Periwinkle close which was named after a stream and watermill…

Anyway back to Milton High street.. There has always been the court-house there and as I said I had never been inside it……….  and by the time I thought about going it had shut to the public 😦  as was slowly going into disrepair.  Fast-forward and now there is a group of lovely people who decided that the hall was worth saving and formed Friends of Milton Regis Court Hall.  and they had an open day this weekend……….  two days the hall was open again to the public so we decided to walk there with the boys… took us a whole five mins to get there as we cut across the rec.

thisismiltonregis 005

I remember being told about the mammoth tusk by someone else years ago and was pleased to see it was still there as that is what appealed to the boys the most I think.

I have to say if I didn’t have so much going on in my life at the moment and volunteering with so many organisations I would be tempted to join the cause…   Maybe at a later date I or should I say we will become active however we will take out a family membership next time I speak to one of the friends as she also chairs on the Country Park Committee we are members of….

Anyway  the kids loved it… so did we…….  and of course I took lots of Pictures….

PicMonkey Collage

Wow welcome from far and wide……. I never noticed this feature before.

Found this in the dashboard…… so went back for last year or so and……..

Hustle and Bustle of the Beach (yeah another rant)

There’s truly nothing like a day at the beach. Sun, balmy ocean breeze, clean seawater, good food, and good company, fresh air for the kids, Life is good. That is until those without good beach etiquette arrive and feel the need to squat right on top of you.
What is it about people who feel the need to sit so close you can feel the heat radiate off their skin? There’s tons of space, we can be the only two families on the beach, but you want to snuggle with me?

Move the fuck over!
We always get to the beach hours before anyone we leave early in the day to avoid the traffic if its a fair distance away,  so once we are there we can enjoy the peace and quiet that the beach and sea can offer. I love watching the sun over the water, it glistens so pretty.

You can hear the gulls as they chatter among themselves. Peaceful. Relaxing. We avoid the places where you get the holiday crowds.. we love living ten, fifteen mins drive from the closest beach Leysdown on Sea …be it if we want a beach just to sit on or  if we want the hustle and bustle with amusements. No matter where we go,  that is where the hoards come, I love living in the South of England as we have every type of beach going from shells, stones, or pure sand and even dunes, all within an hour or two’s drive from us… be it staying in Kent or going to East Sussex to Camber.
Anyway back to the hoards, when they arrive. All one million rude beach goers that want to sit right on top of me. Seriously I know the beaches have been busy but why when there is loads of space do they have to put their towel right down next to our blanket.
They move in with all their unnecessary beach stuff. None of them know how to put up and umbrella so it stays put. None of them understand that sand should stay on the beach and not flying randomly about as they shake out their towels or run by you at 60mph.

I gave up smoking so my son didn’t have to breath in cigarette smoke which of course makes his asthma worse… and here I have some rude person sitting and smoking right in our faces yes thats another thing that pisses me off… And then they bury their dog ends in the sand..

None of them understand that we don’t throw the trash around us we get up and put it in the bins provided and if there are none handy.. here is a novel idea we take it home and dispose of it there..
And finally while we are outside, we really do not have to shout at each other. Quiet indoor voices work well.

Now my favourite times to go to the beach is before and after the school summer holidays but we have been known to go during as well but now all the kids are back at school the weather is usually still great.. So that’s where We intend to go on our next sunny day out…….. To the beach  Hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend.

I understand that not everyone is as lucky as we are to have a choice of beaches to go to and that some may only see them on a weeks holiday once a year but please… have thought for those around you…
