It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas :-)

Last week a couple of friends and I went out for a Christmas Meal, I have to say it wasn’t a great meal,
but the company was great 🙂

First Christmas dinner of the season

First Christmas dinner of the season

The other day I got the decorations out of the loft… Well when I say I got.. what I mean Is Allan and David got the decorations out of the loft… The downside to Christmas this year is I cant have my big tree up due to the fact that we have a small puppy that chews everything in sight and a tree and all the decorations and wiring wouldn’t stand a chance so we decided this year we would stick to Arthur…. Named because Arthur is HalfA tree it fits on the wall. My Christmas decoration OCD has had to go right out the window this year as the boys wanted to decorate the tree in the red white and blue jubilee colours…   and As soon as they saw the union flag decorations they had to have them so tradition of red and gold or brown and cream kind of colour theme has gone right out of the window this year..

So the decorations are now up… we have some on the fish tank, some on the wall unit and some on the mantel shelf and that is it ok not quite there is the ceiling dec’s and a few other bits on the walls and the lights in the window but compared to last year it does look rather dull. I can’t wait until next Christmas when I can have my big tree out again.

Oh and it wouldn’t be Christmas without the kids having the decorating chocolate…….

I get these things every year and they still love them

And then they eat them…………

The countdown is on……… 16 days until Christmas 🙂

Christmas…………. Yes I said it outloud… I’m thinking Christmas Already!

No Seriously We are nearing the end of September and I’m starting to plan Christmas already.
Yes don’t laugh I know I’m the queen of procrastination but when it comes to Christmas, Easter and Halloween I seem to get organised early so I can sit back relax and watch everyone else panic… its great!!

Well Decorations that is….

Mary has said she has a black tree in her loft that she don’t want any more so I’m thinking I rather like that idea…

This year I fancy a change..
The trouble is a black Christmas tree presents the equally unusual dilemma of how to decorate it.

To disprove the notion that you’ve gone completely off your rocker, I have never been a coloured lights fan but I’m now wondering if I go coloured lights and bright colours and go really garish or do I go slightly sophisticated… (If that’s all all possible when we are talking Christmas decorations ) and go for the Silver and white look.

Of course it will mean that I will have to buy all new decorations as I’ve not done the silver and white theme before at Christmas I’ve always stuck to the cream and gold but that is what I’m trying to get away from. I am not a decorations snob… I am more than happy to go to the 99p shops and £ shops to pick up the baubles etc.. ceiling dangly things, maybe even some tinsel this year , Even Asda’s and places like that do some great ones…

It’s like the front room window I would love to get the icicle type Christmas lights for the window so do I go white or blue? you see this is why these things need to be planned in advance…

I need to start picking bits up… Allan may be pleased because it would mean that he wont have to get any of the erm hundreds of decorations out of the loft lol  ( yes I have all sorts of colour themes up there) actually its just reminded me I do have some silver bits from when I had a purple and silver bauble decorated tree in my huge kitchen when I was in Faversham.

But sod it if I start picking up bits now I wont need the stuff out the loft… I’m not bothering with the wall 4ft half a tree this year as I don’t want to move the furniture..  I think I may even pick up new tree lights when I decide what I want…  Seriously its so much easier than trying to get stuff out of the loft…… The problem of being a christmas decoration hoarder is that we have boxes upon boxes of decorations up in the loft and I hate sorting through them all.  I did have a really good sort out a couple of years ago and got rid of the tat I would never use again lol
I think it will just be the tree in the corner a few bits on the shelf below the tv and of course ceiling bits

There you see that’s Christmas decorations planned already… Of course that all depends on my getting the black tree….  But then Last year I did see some funky red ones for sale in Wilkinsons …..

Right what does that leave to plan now….
I guess it all depends on how many we have for Christmas dinner…  The more the merrier usually:

Well this year I’m only making a cake… I’m not bothering with puddings at all, or the Christmas Kransekake, I will make the ginger bread house as the kids love it…

Mince Pies are a must of course… sherry trifle etc.
Last year we had beef, pork and turkey and the turkey went first so this year I think I will just get a small 9lb Turkey and a nice joint of Pork…
Usual Veg and roast pots , Boxing day will be the usual , leftovers and salad lol
Crackers I have up in my bedroom… Seriously I have two packs that I bought last year for the summer Christmas meal that was planned that never happened for Boo and in the end we never used them. I have wrapping paper upstairs as I got loads of rolls for 5p each at Asda’s lol yes I’m cheap when it comes to stuff like that… honestly why pay fortunes when its only going to be ripped off anyway.

Well I already have a present list in mind but that’s all I’m willing to say at the moment although yes again I’m prepared as I already have picked up some bits.
Allan’s main present is membership to Arsenal Football Club He’s wanted to be a full member for years…….  And its already taken care of..
Boys I have promised myself I am not going to go mad this year… Ali doesn’t do toys in fact he doesn’t do presents. I think he gets overwhelmed by the whole Christmas affair but he does do Tech so I’m thinking along those lines for the boys and maybe a personal dvd player each for in the car.. ive seen some cool ones that you can even run from usb flash drive or sd cards as well as dvd disc’s   great for car journeys, plus a couple of games they like.. and little stocking fillers I may think of along the way.
I’ve picked up some bits for Amber already and She keeps saying she wants a new laptop and has seen a nice red one she likes for £699… well one things for sure finances will not stretch that far but Im sure we will be able to sort something out for her.
Then there are the miscellaneous presents such as secret santa and a few other people I want to buy for… Sorry folks but due to lack of finances again these will be cheap and cheerful! but there will be a lot of thought put into them. I am keeping these kind of gifts to the under a Tenner price bracket.. well secret santa is £10 with postage.

So that’s Christmas just about organised.

Now that’s planned the next thing to plan which is before Christmas anyway is Halloween………..  Oh and Alex’s Birthday on the 21st of December… Now that is the hard one…………….

Christmas is over – Let normality return to the household once again!!

Well as Normal as this house ever gets!!

Don’t get me wrong I have loved Christmas this year, Every Second of it but now I just want things to get back to normal.

I have already made a start on taking the decorations down by moving some of the furniture so really all that is left is the ceiling decorations and the tree and window lights.

and If I have my way they will be down by the end of the day 🙄

I just want to declutter now, what looked festive a few weeks ago now looks cluttered!!

The plan was that Both Allan and I would go back on our low-fat diet for the new year but looking at the masses of food and goodies in the house there is no point in even attempting to!

So we have revised our plan…Like when we gave up smoking  And succeeded at , we will start when the time is right instead of making it a new years resolution that will probably be broken.

So the plan is eat drink and be merry, finish off all the goodies and then start the diets , the exercise and the general health eating!!

Well Officially the decorations were all down… and put upstairs ready to go up in the attic by 2pm today…

Not a decoration or hint of Christmas can be seen !!
Not even a twinkle of glitter from a card!!
Anyone for a cream egg?!??

Wish us luck!!

Very Important Announcement!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just in case you were wondering, my Christmas tree, at this very moment, is 100% blinking. All the strands of lights –every single one–blinking like mad.

This was achieved at great personal cost to my fingernails and not without some serious swearing.

My feelings of victory are indescribable.

But I remain vigilant.

And as soon as I can work out how to get one that really shows it up well,, I’ll take some pictures or a video and post it. Because I know you will want to live vicariously through my blinks.

However I am having a major battle with the window lights… Santa’s sleigh and his reindeer are crashing on a regular bias… when I have found a cure for this I will let you know but in the meantime……..

Drinks on the house!

Allan has decided its time to put the Christmas Decorations up!! WHEN THE KIDS ARE AROUND!!!!

Okay…so I’m in the mood to play with Christmas decorations today since I have too much on my mind and too much to do. Pretty much solidifies that I’m NOT going to do anything I HAVE to do today and only do what I WANT to do. What sense does that make you ask? Not much in the world of normal folks who aren’t as eerily dysfunctional as I am, as OCD-ish as I am, as plagued with procrastination as I am.
That said…I don’t expect perfect folks to understand so I’m not going to try to explain the logic behind doing what I want to do instead of doing what I have to do today.
Hi my name is Ann and I have Tree/Decoration OCD.
This is where I hear everyone say in unison, Hi Ann 😆
They say admitting ones faults if the first sign of acceptance so I will be the first one to say that……..
YES I have Christmas Tree/Decoration OCD & YES I am the only one that is allowed to decorate our Christmas tree,
There I said it, it’s officially in Cyber Space.
And what makes it even more funny is I’m not even very good at it… You know those pictures where you see the perfect tree… well that’s not mine!!

I know this makes me a terrible mother as my kids will never grow up saying that they loved the holiday tradition where we all gathered together to decorate the tree while listening to Christmas music and sipping hot cocoa. Yeah, THAT pretty much will never happen and frankly I came to grips with this fact years ago.
But I’m sorry, to me the tree has to be colour coordinated , I like a theme Last year it was brown and cream this year its red and gold, it’s just something I can’t get over. After I get the tree all decorated I will sit and stare at it & more often than not you will find me moving things here and there.
I once let the kids help me a decorate the tree and when they went to bed and finally were asleep I rearranged the whole flipping thing
(see told you it was ocd).
If it helps any, I do have little Christmas trees in  my kids bedrooms that they get to decorate themselves how ever they like. I am hoping one day I will let the kids help again maybe when they’ve grown. But until then this is how it’s going to be.
Please tell me I’m not alone here? 🙂
Usually I pick a time when I am alone in the house and get the tree up to the awe of the children when they see it.. but this year.. Allan insisted that we put the decorations up during the day… Bad mistake.. bearing in mind I feel like crap, he brings the boxes down and everything is dumped everywhere.. I decide we need an order to things so we do window first. , then everything else.. then the tree…
So by the time I had got round to the tree’s  (did I mention we have Arther as well?)  half a tree that goes on the wall 😆  I find that half the lights I want to use are not working..   we seem to have lots of sets of lights but they either don’t blink or don’t work… oh and I have this thing about  various mixed coloured lights..  and tinsel  can’t stand them… we have one bit of tinsel that i allow in the house and that is gold with some green ivy on it lol
Anyway I finally get the lights sorted after much hair pulling and swearing get the tree sorted .. and throw the balls on it only to remember I should have put the beads on the tree first.. now every other year I would have taken everything off and started again but this year.. Nope It can stay like that!!  well that’s what I am saying now!!
You know the saying less is more!! well this year the house looks like Santa’s grotto…
See I am getting the magic of christmas back !!! 😀

It’s 3.03 now on Sunday Morning and I have finally finished… Tomorrow when Allan had put all the boxes away I will take some pictures and post them 😛 But for now its try to sleep time.
