Missed Moment: Once upon a time long ago!

Having an Autistic son Ali can sometimes be a good thing because all he does is sit at the computer most of the time or on his tablet or DS, basically anything tech, for the majority of the time.
Unless he is in meltdown mode…  Then you certainly know all about it.
My other son Alex is also tech mad and plays minecraft most of the time.
If they are not doing that they are playing with train sets or racing on the scalextric or arguing but there is never a time when I wonder what happened when because at the age of 7 ½ and nearly 10 we are always around.

So a Missed Moment In my house means what the dogs have been up to!
Or should I say dog really as Teal’c is usually quite good.
I came back in the other day after being out to find that one of the dogs had knocked the laundry pile over and there were socks everywhere…
Thankfully nothing was chewed up as Moo-bags aka Molly still has these pangs to chew something, last month it was a patch on the lino in the kitchen, why she did it is a mystery to me but as it already had a slight tear on it that happened when the fridge was moved a few years back it needed replacing anyway. One day I will get around to it.

But this got me thinking about all the damage that had been done by “innocent” dogs over the years.

Looking back now the funniest time was about 25 plus  years ago when I had two mutts, I say Mutts because I’m not sure what the parentage of them was but they had some staff traits.
Their names were Mina and Arnold, now I had owned Mina for a couple of years so she was totally out of the puppy stage and I had been lucky really when it came to chewing as it wasn’t something she ever did with the exception maybe of a few chew toys and rawhide.
She once swiped a MacDonald bag that I had just put down off the table that I had brought in for the kids and ran behind the sofa and as I shouted at her she ran out again leaving the bag there..

I  moved the sofa out and in that split second she had been behind there with it she had managed to not only open the bag, but opened a happy meal box and grabbed a cheeseburger unwrapped it and she had scoffed it as well.
But that was her only real sin so I can’t complain about her really.

Arnold was another matter.
I had taken Arnold on as a rescue, he really was the gentle giant very laid back and very loving But

even though he was about two years old if not older,  he was a pain for chewing things.  It was usually shoes he chewed or the legs of the dinning room table, but he hadn’t chewed anything for quite a while (about 6 months)  and I thought we had finally passed that chewing stage once and for all.

One day I was out in the front garden digging up daffodil bulbs out of the beds as I was planning on filling the garden with hardcore and putting a driveway on the front garden… I had been working out there for about half an hour when I saw the dogs watching me through the bay window..
Ahh I thought they had come in from the  back garden where I had left them and opened the kitchen door and then come in the front room,  but as they were just lying there  on the big bay window ledge watching I thought nothing of it and got on with the digging up of bulbs… About an hour later after working hard I just happened to look up again and noticed something fly up in the air..

Curious I stopped and watched and again something else flew in the air as well, it looked like lumps of foam.
Wondering what was going on I walked back into the house.

As I entered the front room I couldn’t believe my eyes…

The whole sofa was in shreds all over the place, all the foam stuffing was in tiny bits, It was and I emphasise WAS a brown velour sofa about three months old I might add and there was material, wood and foam everywhere.. and I mean everywhere..
I looked at the dogs and Mina looked at me and then looked at Arnold as if to say
“it wasn’t me it was him”.. I looked at Arnold and he was standing there wagging his tail.

He didn’t even have the decency to look guilty like some dogs do when they know they have done something they shouldn’t have but of course having a past history of chewing everything in sight he took all the blame that day and he certainly missed out on a few treats to say the least.

However thinking back I often wonder if Mina helped in the mass destruction of the sofa because there was a lot of mess for just one dog… A lot of mess, It was hard to find a spot on the carpet anywhere that wasn’t covered in foam.

Was she to join in the blame as well?
Maybe that is why he never looked as guilty as he should have!

One of my few regrets is I never actually saw the demolition take place, So yes I would call that a missed moment in time.

A new Addition to the family……… Well Hello Molly

I said no more dogs…. I said No more pets…. I said No at least 20 times… and well …. here is our new addition Molly and how we ended up being a two dog family..

Just as we were on our way out the door, there was a knock, Did we want to buy a Staff Puppy I said NO… I’m sure I said no… I looked at Allan and said No… No… No… No.
we went to get the kids in the car and our neighbour brought the puppy out to show us…Just for the record, I’m still saying No….  Really I am… I am looking right at Allan and saying No…….

She explained that her son had bought it for his girlfriend, two weeks earlier but they had now spilt up and she didn’t want the dog… So he has it at home with mum… Mum however already has two staff boy dogs at home who really didn’t get on with this pup and she needed it gone that day… it was already jabbed. had the next set of jabs paid for and the microchipping. They had paid £180 for it two weeks ago and originally tried to get their money back, and all we needed to do was take it next week for its jabs and chipping. …

I’m still saying No at this point while Alex is cuddling the puppy. On hindsight maybe it was not a good idea to let him hold her 😆

I’m thinking No… I’m saying No… but no-one is listening…

I say I’m not sure how Teal’c would take to a puppy in the house… I know he is ok with friends dogs but I was a bit worried he would play too rough.. Anyway my last argument was we had nowhere to keep her and I had taken my kitchen door off and we had to go out as we had promised the boys we were taking them to Hornby that day…
I am reminding Allan what a nightmare it was to house train Teal’c and how he was nearly a year old before we could honestly say we had nailed it.
I also pointed out the many nights I had to sleep on the sofa because we had a crying puppy in the house.  And how we had no bedding or anything for it and I really didn’t want to have to go and get any

It was at this point they said she came with her crate, Bedding, food, bowls and everything… and all they wanted was £20 for the lot…

Allan looked at me and it was at that point I knew I had lost….

It has also crossed my mind that if we didn’t have her then one of the pikeys that live round by us probably would at that price and god knows what would happen to the sweet little puppy….

Sweet little puppy Yeah… right she is far from sweet let me tell you.. this girl is going to be a right Bitch…  I will have competition in the house… Actually her temperament reminds me of my beloved Shar Pei I had years ago called Zelda… she was the most loyal dog I have ever known to the family… Hated everyone else… even as a puppy she wouldn’t let anyone else pat her head… I had to crate her if anyone came in the house… Funny enough the only person she tolerated was Allan , she even hated my ex…
Anyway Molly I think will be very similar.

we put her indoors in her crate… told Amber she was there and took the boys out for a few hours..

When we got back we introduced her to teal’c at which point she barked and growled at him and he hid behind us..

this pup is only 9 weeks old her birthday is

19th August 2012 and she is very similar colourings to Teal’c

The one thing I will say is she is a feisty little thing as she really does rule the roost… Teal’c is learning to stand up to her and give her a growl back to put her in her place… there is no malice in it, more of I am Alpha Dog here you little squirt

Life will certainly be interesting with the two of them

but in the mean time we are back to puppy training again.. she has two favourite spots… in the bathroom for piddling and right by the front door for poo’ing… we are working on this as I type

Anyway… As I have said before I want it noted that I did say NO repeatedly… 🙄

Dog 0 – Hamster 1

Scenario: Still not really well enough to go upstairs to bed, I am sleeping on the sofa, when I am woken up by an almighty crash about 2am
The dog had jumped up and knocked the cage off the side, trying to get at the hamster who I have to say was climbing up the bars winding the dog up in the first place…

Now the Dog quite often jumps up at the cage but never knocks it with such a force that it flys off.. until tonight.
Once the cage had hit the floor of course it came apart from the internal tray thing and said hamster escapes out of cage The dog goes over for a closer look and at this point the hamster screeches like she did when we first got her and turns and chases after dog (Teal’c)
Dog puts nose to hamster. and “Isabella formerly known as Gwen” AKA the hamster, takes revenge for the destruction of her house on his nose…

Teal’c who is all of a sudden not as brave as perhaps a 7 stone hulk that he is should be, runs off yelping and is now hiding, in the meantime I have dragged myself off the sofa… (bearing in mind this all happened so quickly) and I rush to the spot where the hamster is “Isabella formerly known as Gwen” climbs into my hand and sits on my shoulder while I sort her cage out put some fresh bedding etc now while she is getting tamer usually she will climb quite happily into her ball and come to you at the bars of the cage for her treats she never is usually brave enough to sit in your hand so Im assuming she must be in shock a little. anyway I check her over and she is fine I put her back in her cage once it was sorted  and she started tearing around her wheel at the usual 100pmh!!

We have taken precautions though that this dispute doesn’t happen again  because next time there may not be the  same winner and How I can explain that to the kids I do not know..

Dog 3 House 0

Don’t get me wrong, The dawg is no innocent.. but for months he has been so good until now…..

When we first got him he was the hardest mutt I have ever had to try to house-train.

I managed it in the end, with the odd accident. funny enough for some strange reason, they always seems to coincide with weekend visits 😕

Anyway, With the Aid of a crate and everything else we seemed to get through the chewing puppy stage pretty Scott free ..

He learned how to escape the crate, we found that out when we got back from silverstone and he had been running round the house most of the day.

Oh good we thought we have got there.. trained at last..

So as we no longer needed the crate for him so put it outside in the playhouse.. Seemed as good as place as any to store it lol

Everything was fine  until last week 🙄

I went shopping in the morning and had done the school run in the afternoon.  everything seemed fine when I got back,

That evening I went upstairs to make the boys beds (didn’t have time in the morning) and there was some sponge on the landing..

wondering what it was I investigated further, My bedroom door was open a little so I peaked in.. OMG the fucker had chewed the whole memory foam mattress. 😡 Not impressed I called Allan

and he came up to clear out…..

Dog chastised and has behaved until Allan and I went out yesterday to have our parent teacher evening and collect Alex from school..

I would say we were gone, about an hour and a half.. we got back in to find that

The dawg had chewed his way through Allan’s Landrover Manual and Alex’s Dr Who book he got for christmas..

resulting in one very upset child and one pissed off Alpha Male and one cringing dawg..

We had a subdued dog all evening while I was baking Jo’s Birthday Cake..

Thinking the dawg had learned his lesson I went shopping this morning.  Came back and lo and behold he had got the manicure set (that Allan had left on the table) and a brand new padlock and keys.. and opened the blister pack..

I noticed as soon as I walked in the door. arrrgghhh!!

We have a few options now…

We can tidy up after ourselves and make sure all bedroom doors are locked so the dawg cant get in to anything.

OR..

We can cage the dawg when we go out.. But that kinda defeats the object of having the dog guard the house.

It’s not as if he doesn’t have anything to chew on as he has the biggest mother of a bone going not to mention balls and toys…..

I have googled and found this

separation anxiety 😯 I have separation anxiety every-time I got to bed now.. I miss my comfy mattress I hate the new one we had to buy.

The look of pure Guilt!!

30 Days of Me in a lifetime! Day 10

Day 10 Songs you listen to when you are Happy, Sad, Bored, Hyped, Mad, songs that bring back special memories.

Wow these get harder and harder…
While I’m a bit of a rock chic at heart but I do like most music types with the exception of Classical (man I hate Classical Music)

I don’t listen to any particular type of music or special song for any mood I’m in,

although I would say there was one Song that makes me Sad rather than Me listen to it when I’m sad…  Ben

yeah I know it’s about a kid losing his rat if you listen to the lyrics… Years ago I had a lovely dog called Ben and He was killed running across the road.. so it reminds me of him  Like I said it makes me Sad…music..

This is the only one song that brings back special Memories and  that I can actually name and give a reason behind it.
Eye of the Tiger… When ever I hear that it reminds me of going to see Rocky III with Andy when we were younger

Sad to say its my favourite Rocky Film

I’m actually surprised to see it was brought out in 1982 so that would have made me 20

I actually thought I was younger than that..  😯

And A Year Later….. Me Bad!! Sorry!!

Just a quickie update really.

It’s been a year since I last posted It seems I never have the time

OK to be honest I forgot about it.

So much has gone on in the last 12 months really that its hard to keep it to a minimum but I will go with the basics and if I am good will post more and elaborate more.

Ali was diagnosed with chronic asthma last December and  had a really bad attack which put him in hospital.

both Allan and I decided then we had to give up smoking around him we wanted to give up completely but with Allan’s high cholesterol and the low fat diet he had to go on and yes we were both doing really well, we even lost over a stone between us over Christmas we figured we couldn’t manage to give up just yet. we also decided that we didn’t want to give up on New Years eve as it was too much pressure so we chose another date March 9th as it was Allan’s birthday

we went to the doctors and went on some pills to help us give up.

the idea is that you take them for two weeks and then stop on an agreed give up date.. 9th march

but we only had taken them for a week and both gave up about the 4th of March.

and it wasn’t just the fags we gave up smoking it was everything  and neither of us have smoked since.

I’m so proud of myself.

I’m a confirmed 40 plus a day person for over 30 years and I’VE GIVEN UP SMOKING..

and it was easy. no cravings or bad mood  ,

well Allan got a bit stressy but I don’t think it was the tobacco he missed those first couple of weeks.

The downside is we both gained weight again and yes went off the low fat diet and stopped doing the exercises on the wii but 6 months down the line we got back on it and to my delight i had only gained about 10lb and Allan 6lb so we are back on the healthy eating kick..

(I’m not mentioning the chocolate and pork scratchings we had today)

and i did do a full exercise routine on the wii and found it so much easier. now its just finding time to do it ..

once Ali goes to school full time i have promised myself I will do a full hour a day.

But better to be fat than smoke and now we work on the fat…….

It feels so weird being a none smoker though for a start I cant stand the smell of smoke ha ha dirty disgusting smelly habit.

We have a dog now called Teal’c

a snake.. called sid..

we still have ZZ and of course the fish although we have downsized the fish to one tank of tropical now.

We got Teal’c when he was 12 weeks old from an animal rescue centre called Foal Farm at biggin Hill he was named hino but with the gold markings on his forehead of his brindle brown body he looked just like Teal’c from SG1 (star gate programme )

He cost us £160 but that included all his jabs and the neutering which we had to take him back for when he was 7 months old.

It was not my idea to get a dog.. this was Allan’s Idea. prompted by the fact that the shed was broken into yet again by the local tea leaf.. don’t get me wrong I love dogs but didn’t want another one due to my asthma and Ali’s  but thankfully we have both been OK with him. The dog is stupid though not only was he a bugger to house train. he lets the kids do anything to him and I mean ANYTHING… and comes back for more :) and he is big.. I swear he gets bigger every day.

Teal’c

and I have another grandchild a granddaughter by my oldest son Daniel called Angel.

Angel

again it’s another grandchild I  will probably never see :(

that breaks my heart if im honest. I hope that one day they (being my 5 oldest children), will realise  what a liar my ex or should I say my husband is, yes Ive still not managed to get a divorce,.

Allan bucked his ideas up, we had another glitch so to speak but I think he is behaving now.

thankfully I don’t have to see his old bat of a mother now.. well once a year around boxing day,.

we now have his youngest daughter Tammy (Tamara) every weekend, she wants to come and live with us but her mum isn’t to happy about that so we came to a compromise and she stays with us 4 days and goes home for 3 days.

apart from the summer holidays where she came on holiday with us..( yes we actually had a camping holiday even if it was only Hastings and only for 4 days)  and then she went home for two weeks,  I’ve had nothing but

im bored constantly.  I felt so bad in the end on some of the day trips with the boys I have picked her up to come with us for the day

and boy have we done some day trips the boys still love their castles and we have been to Leeds castle practically once a week even if it was just for a picnic and a play.

and I’ve or should I say we as Allan came along on a few occasions have taken them to loads of other places. The one thing Alex has not said once in the holidays is he was bored,

in fact he begged one day to be able to stay at home and play on the pc lol

I have loved having them both at home and would quite happily have had a longer summer holiday.

and im sad that my last baby starts school this year.  he will be doing mornings and his teacher is coming Thursday 9th Sept to the house for a home  visit. OMG I need to tidy up lol

but he starts full-time on the 18th of October…  I wont cry as I know he is more than ready to go to school but I will be upset as its my last ever baby starting school

I will have two school children and not just two little boys.  my babies have grown up to quickly for me.

oh well I had better  go now I will no doubt proof  read this later and find all sorts of mistakes,

until the next time.
