It’s beginning to look a lot like Normal!

Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, But I’m glad it’s over with.

I love friends and family around but this year I felt burnt out by the day after boxing day.
We had friends stay over during the holiday so on Christmas day there was 9 around the table.  and of course to make space for the table and to allow for a little person being there as well the sacrifice was the big Christmas tree, ok we have Arthur the half a tree that goes on the wall but it’s not the same as having presents under the tree and this is the second year we haven’t had the big tree up as last year there wasn’t room because of the way the furniture was at the time.  The boys were quite disappointed and kept saying that next year can we have the tree up and I tend to agree with them.

It’s actually been a hectic Christmas,  we went out for a lovely Christmas meal with the other members of the invitation arachnid club , we actually went on the 21st which was Alexs birthday so he made full use of the smart phone we had got him as he is now 1o and wanted to go out and of course all his friends have a phone…  (yes I gave in ) to be honest he has a better phone than me although I didn’t go as far as getting him an iPhone like apparently everyone else has 😉 funny enough the novelty has worn off now and he hasn’t touched it since Christmas but no doubt will do once he has more numbers stored in it than mine, Allan’s and his granddads

The day before Christmas eve we took the boys to Bluewater to see the Coca Cola Truck, which we got soaked seeing this year as it was pouring down and blowing a gale so much that we had to take our own pictures this year and the tree and everything had blown away twice so they put it away in the end. And of course  we had to go to the lego shop, it’s the closest one to us and the boys love spending their money there.. Alex always had birthday money, In fact Ali still had some money left over from his birthday last July as well, (they save well) so both stocked up with Lego,  we came home with over £100 worth of lego between them,  as they also got some money in their Christmas card from my dad as well.

Christmas came and as I said the house was full from Christmas eve until after boxing day, and I was the one running around doing all the work. The morning after everyone had left and it was just back to us again I woke up feeling like someone had slit my throat, and things have gone downhill since then with me now in full fledge Man Flu!  But despite that we have managed to get the house back to normal.  (well as normal as this house gets)
I haven’t taken the decorations down yet but I can’t see them staying up much longer, it’s just a matter of when I feel better.  The room already looks better to me just swapping the tables around again.. we have a leaf table and another oval table and this year one was used for serving from and the other we sat around.

The boys got a few presents but in comparison with previous years not as many although they did have a guitar and keyboard to share, an MP4 player each, a few games, a camcorder each as they both love doing videos and the main present a laptop which we went halves with my dad to get. oh and a onesie… they have been going on about getting one for a long time and finally they have one… actually with the exception of going out on the 28th for fish and chips where I made them take them off for a few hours so I could wash and dry them. and of course as soon as they came out of the tumble dryer they put them back on again and still have them on.

christmas say

I ended up getting a rather expensive Christmas present on the 27th as my beloved range cooker had just about passed away so to speak.  For a lovely big stainless cooker the knobs were plastic and it had 11 and I had used pliers to turn them as they had all broken. to replace them it was £11.99 each so that would have been over £130 just for that, but the seal had gone in one of the ovens so I was struggling to get the right temperature and cook with it and the electrics had gone for the fan assisted oven and the warming plate and of course ignition, while it was a gas cooker without the electric fan the oven wouldn’t work, so I was down to a grill, an oven that was hit and miss and 7 rings….   So the credit card that we had spent two years trying to clear and had nearly paid up with the intention of getting rid of it once and for all took a beating.  we actually had to order a new card first as we had even cut it up.. and lo and behold a new cooker was being delivered.  Sadly they couldn’t deliver in time for Christmas but it’s here now.  And we couldn’t afford to replace the old cooker with the same so this was as close as I got… only one oven but its HUGE! instead of two smaller ovens, one grill and a slow oven which I never used except for storage because I used my slow cooker instead. I am going to treat myself to a huge tray bake tray when I can..
So goodbye old cooker, you served me well and hello new cooker!

I'm Spoilt for ChoiceThis picture was of the old cooker years ago when it actually had all the knobs on it.
and this is the new cooker.

Anyway that was Christmas and while I loved having the house full we have decided that next year for the first time in many years it will just be Me, Allan. My dad (if he is still about so to speak but that’s another story when Christmas is over)  and Amber if she is still living with us and the boys for Christmas dinner. We will have the big tree up and instead we will have open house for Family and Friends on Boxing day.

We were very boring last night as I was still not feeling well (Cant believe that I have gone the whole of the holidays and new years eve without a single drop of Alcohol ) although I may make up for it today and have a glass of wine. Anyway we stayed in and watched a few more of my Call the Midwife dvd’s that I treated myself to for Christmas.

So for now if you are still awake after all this waffling on
I Wish you a Happy New Year and may all your hopes and dreams come true in 2014

The Night before Christmas.

’Twas the night before Christmas,
He lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house,
Made of plaster and stone.

I had to come down the chimney,
With presents to give,
And to see just who,
In this home, did live.

I looked all about,
A strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, No presents,
Not even a tree.

No stocking by mantle,
Just boots filled with sand,
One the wall hung pictures,
Of far distant lands.

With medals and badges,
Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought,
Came through my mind.

For this house was different,
It was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier,
Once I could see clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,
Silent, Alone,
Curled up on the floor,
In this one bedroom home.

The face was so gentle,
The room in disorder,
Not how I pictured,
A true British soldier.

Was this the hero,
Of whom I’d just read?
Curled up on a poncho
The floor for a bed.

I realised the families
That I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers,
Who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world,
The children would play,
And grown ups would celebrate,
A bright Christmas day.

They all enjoyed freedom,
Each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers,
Like the one lying here.

I couldn’t help wonder,
How many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas eve,
In a land far from home.

The very thought brought,
A tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees,
And started to cry,

The soldier awakened,
And I heard a rough voice,
Santa don’t cry,
This life is my choice.

I fight for freedom,
I don’t ask for more,
My life is my God,
My Country, My Corps.

The soldier rolled over,
And drifted to sleep,
I couldn’t control it,
I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours.
So silent and still,
And we both shivered,
From the cold night’s chill.

I did not want to leave,
On that cold, dark night.
This guardian of honour,
So willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over,
With a voice soft and pure,
Whispered “Carry on Santa,
It’s Christmas day, All is secure”

One look at my watch,
And I knew he was right,
“Merry Christmas My Friend,
And to All a Good Night. “

Christmas Has Left the Building!

After a fun and food filled Christmas holiday with friends and family,

New years eve was spent with Allan’s family The nice normal ones on his dad’s side and not the Evil ones from the dark side…….. Ie… His Mother and Evil Sister……..

It was a great evening filled with laughter, food, and karaoke ….

423682_10200250735980137_93041641_n

Funny enough this is the first time we have been out and the boys haven’t wanted to leave early… they are loving spending time with their cousins…. I think we are really going to have to make an effort to have regular family get togethers….. They really do lack any family contact…… Ironic considering how many bothers and sisters they have… I know Alex knows he has older brothers and sisters but hasn’t actually asked about them but I can see it happening soon…….. Anyway… as I was saying… Christmas and New Years Eve and New Years Day are over now…..

The kids have a room full of rubbish and Now I need normality to prevail yet again..

As Normal as possible in this house.

I just needed the clutter and the chaos to be gone. Like that is ever going to happen but I live in hope.

Yes, the house is a mess but the kids are happy and everyone had a great time! well I hope they did.

Even though I do admit that the house was hardly like Santa’s grotto like it usually is In comparison to previous years, due to me not being well, it was quite minimalist without any big tree as I have said before….

ironically Now Christmas and New Years is over I actually feel ok, except maybe a little tired and the legs and hip are playing up but If I’m honest its the extra weight I have gained (yes I will do something about it soon)

and the cold damp weather oh and getting older that cause that.

I woke up this morning and thought Now it’s time to take the necessary steps in order to cure that Christmas Hangover of over eating, drinking and just excess of all that is good edible and yummy.

All I could think about is getting our house back in order after the craziness that was Christmas.

I just needed the clutter and the chaos to be gone. ok the Christmas Clutter and Chaos….

I did mention this to Allan and like a shot he was all for the idea……. By the afternoon there was not a decoration to be seen, Not only that everything was up in the loft again as well, Well everything but the Christmas door wreath which of course was out of sight out of mind…

But that will go in the loft up tomorrow.

I have never known him so keen to get up in the loft and put stuff up there… Usually I have to nag for weeks to get bits put away.

Problem is now I look at bare shelves and wonder what was actually there before……. Ok one shelf that is bear had a hamster cage but I’m not mentioning that incase the boys decide they want another one…

What I do have a strong compulsion to do is change the furniture about…… Now we don’t exactly have a lot of room to play with in the front room but even so I need to change things around… Years ago I was known for changing furniture around on a regular basis but with Ali the way he is I tend to leave things the way they are because he really hates change….. but the changes I have planned are small and I’m hoping that this time he wont kick off as much as he did last time I moved the front room about..

This year I want to de-clutter……… A friend is going to go up in the loft with Allan and de-clutter up there… I think even Allan is willing now to admit there is far too much junk up there…

Plus at some point we want to swap the boys and Amber’s rooms around… When the boys had the small room to sleep in and the big room was a play room and junk room and exercise room it was fine… but now Amber has the big room and the boys have to share the smallest room in the house and to be honest I don’t think that’s fair…… So the plan for future is move the boys bunk bed over and her bed in the small room… plus that way I never need to go in there as I have never known anyone make so much mess as she does.

once the kids rooms are done I want to do ours….. yes de-clutter there as well… and then we will work on downstairs……..

New Year New Start………..

I will probably be saying the same thing about moving bits around and sorting them out this time next year…….. The hoarder in me is slowly seeing the light, I so want to have a normal house like normal people instead of stuff everywhere……..

Now if Allan could be the same we would be well away…. My first treat to myself when I get the cash is some stair baskets to store bits in that end up being put on the stairs….

maybe once everything is de-cluttered we can actually get around to decorating… Of course finances allowing… because as usual, decorating and putting new carpet on the stairs etc cost money…… and with bills mounting up and the cost of everything doubling… finances are not stretching as far as they did before……

I have a feeling this year is going to be a hard year for all concerned… Especially us…..

But for now………. one day at a time…..

The Summer Holidays are here!

Day 1 of the summer holidays and guess who came out of hiding… what a lovely day we have had.

Less than two weeks now before we go away for our holiday and I have to admit I cant wait I am really looking forward to it.. Just to get away from the house as its been a long time coming.

This week is going to be a nightmare.. trying to find time to do everything.. I need to get the back room cleared. and I mean cleared… I have the new bed and mattress arriving on Tuesday  I need to pick up the wardrobes from Jo.. and the room is still a junk room.  Its not helping that tomorrow  (Sunday) Allan is bowls… monday I am out shopping for some bits in Canterbury and oh guess what.. yes the bed comes Tuesday… so guess who it is going to be running around clearing the room tomorrow.   Maybe we can get a little done tonight but I’m not holding my breath.

by the end of the week that room needs to become a bedroom… that’s hopefully after we have found a new home for the huge fish tank that is in there… well whoever has it will have to be able to carry it down stairs .

In the meantime its a lovely evening.. its been hot and sunny all day… one of the nicest days so far of the non-existent summer we have had and guess what mug was indoors most of the day cooking a roast lamb dinner with all the trimmings because Allan is out tomorrow.

Blog 20 – A picture of where you went to on holiday last

Hmmm  This year because we had the snakes, dog, hamster you name it we had a staycation and took the kids out to loads of places but the last actual holiday we had when we went away was when we went camping in Robertsbridge East Sussex (not far from Hastings) Last year (2010)   we went to loads of places, battle abby, hastings, yesterdays world, rye  to mention a few but i think the most relaxing time was the last day when we just chilled on the campsite.   Tammy came with us as well  although to be honest she spent the whole week having a face like a smacked arse!! texting her mates she was bored  but wouldnt get off her arse and do anything about it 🙄

our tent... not exactly small, has three double bedrooms and huge awnings we have never had it all out yetclubhousefun in the sun on the one day we actually stayed on siteboys in the play areaclubhousefun in the sun on the one day we actually stayed on site

Half Term Man I’m Organised!!

I unlike the majority of mothers Love having my kids at home,

I count down the days until they break up..

Well this month they are going to be off more then they are at school so I have organised quite a few things on what is a very tight budget.

Allan Failed his Arctic HGV test so that is the savings gone..  😦  time to save up re-group and re assess I guess but in the meantime we have the kids to worry about.

A friend gave me some free  tickets to a circus in Chatham  for April 8th which was perfect timing as It was the day they broke up from school early.

What a start to the Holidays 🙂

Today there was an arts and sports thing organised at the villiage hall for the kids.. We did pop along but it was pants to say the least.. half an hour there and it was back home for lunch and baking 🙂

Tomorrow is bouncy castle day, Thursday  I have to take Ali for his eye appointment and go shopping and Friday its off to Leeds castle with the boys.. so that’s this week organised

My song for the day will have to be put on hold until the kids go back to school for the pure reason I never seem to get more than ten mins pc time.

If Im honest I would rather be in the kitchen.. I have been baking non stop for the boys.. ok and for us.. No good when your on a diet..

I will try and update as often as possible 🙂

Someone Mentioned that Christmas and New Year’s was a Holiday.. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought on Holidays you get to relax and someone else does all the work!

Obviously I’m Wrong 😕

I have to say though It’s not been too bad this year and even though we have had a house full most of the time I’ve managed to keep on top of things somehow.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Holidays before the boys go back to school so apart from a quick nip to the shops to pick up Ali’s PE kit and plimsolls. I am Still Organised..

(I confess I had forgotten he would need them at the beginning of the new term redface )

I have All their packed lunch bits, School Uniform ready.. book bags at the ready.. and Petrol in the car ready for the school runs again! It will seem so quiet on Wednesday when they are gone..
