Got some Major catching up to do!

Well, what an end to the Easter Holidays!
It’s been quite A rollercoaster of events and no time for blogging.
So get yourself a cup of tea –
I have a feeling this blog may be a long one as we catch up on events from the past few weeks.

 Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin …

We had some fantastic weather the last week the kids were at school, it wasn’t bad the first five days they were off school but since then we have had nothing but cold and overcast, its seems the clouds had rolled in and we’ve been treated to week of over cast, cold weather, sometimes the clouds were so black I thought we were going to have some torrential rain… but no… we had five min’s of rain and that’s it…. the clouds moved on by…. And the hose pipe ban has come into force…. This will of course affect the garden this summer and what is going to be grown in it, Veg wise  But I will blog about that another day.

The problem with this weather is what to do with the kids..   Alex had decided that he wanted to take a break from his Karate so we agreed he could have the Easter Break off…  As it goes the Wednesday before they broke up from school he was really under the weather anyway so he has had three weeks off which to be honest has done him good I think he was getting over tired from it and its given his knee’s and legs a rest as well.  (one day I will go into what’s actually wrong with him in more detail )

The first week they were off we took them to the Chatham dockyard which they loved going back to, and of course their old favourite the spitfire and RAF Manston museum.
The other trip I had planned for them was on the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway
http://www.sklr.net/
for a trip but sadly that was cancelled because asbestos was found in a pipe running adjacent to the railway.

As it goes that day it was cold anyway so the boys were happy having a chill day.

We did go out to the park a couple of times so it wasn’t a bad week.

On the way up the park

A quick kick around

Oh and we went on an Easter egg hunt as well to Riverside Country Park, we also took our neighbours son Adam with us.. With the exception of him running off (but was found) the boys really enjoyed the trail although I have to say while the 20 odd questions were actually very hard for youngsters the prize was not very good at all, A little Mini Egg… I think next year I will find somewhere else to take them to.

Finding the Clues and Answering the Questions..

Collecting their naff prize either a silly plastic toy or a mini egg... wow and the trail took two hours for that?!?

Sunday of course was Easter Sunday now I am not religious at all but I do know what its like for kids when all their friends at school go on about how they got this and that on religious holidays so I have never deprived my boys of Christmas and Easter… except for the fact that its more an end of year present giving and pig out… and Easter is chocolate egg weekend lol

And with that in mind I decided that this year I would make them a basket each instead of just buying a chocolate egg, I was actually quite impressed with them.

Their eggs and baskets I made

I think this will become a new tradition in the house…… Maybe next year I wont do all chocolate though… I may add a little treat in instead.

Having been ill Again 😦 I am now back on the sofa although I am recovering much better this time.. thankfully it’s not gone onto my chest completely just more of a cold and cough. I have been told I have a very weak immune system since I got bronchitis last year and need to build myself up so I am now on a course of some major Vitamin  and iron and omega 3 capsules and it all seems to be helping as I am now fighting this bug off on my own without needing huge amounts of antibiotics and I am just about managing to cope in the day.

Alex has been asking to go to an amusement park for a while now and the idea of Alton towers really filled me with dread as I knew it would cost fortunes and the boys wouldn’t be able to go on much, however there is one place I had forgotten about until someone reminded me the other day when they were posting some pictures… Southend Adventure Island…  It’s Ideal Not that far from home… its wrist band entry so not silly money… So I looked on-line and they were doing a deal on wrist bands which can be used any time in the year so I have bought a couple of the red bands for them and I am tempted while they are on offer to get a couple of the green ones,  If the boys are too tall for the red ones then I can always upgrade them and if they are too small for the greens ones then Allan can go on the rides with them…. (Did you notice I said Allan there… well he knows nothing about it yet lol ). The good thing is they don’t run out until the end of 2012 so will save them for special treats when the weather does eventually get better…

Today is the last day off before the boys go back to school on Monday. I have to say on one hand I’m looking forward to it so I can start getting the house in some order but on the other hand not only is it back to the dreaded school run (which I may have mentioned I hate 🙄 ) but I will miss the boys… Although Ali has certainly had his challenging moments over the last two weeks.

Yesterday I had a trial run of a cake to make for this Cake Meeting… the theme is fruit and veg. so I thought the cake should contain both so had made an eggplant cake with strawberries… different and not that bad… We will also be making a carrot and ginger cake with lemon frosting.. Again Fruit and Veg…

I have noticed that the host is making an apple cake…. where is the veg in that… When I go if that is wall she has done I will ask what is the point in having a theme such as fruit and veg if it can be either after all anyone can make a normal carrot cake or a fruit cake..

Eggplant and Strawberry Cake

Oh and I will remember to put them right about who did most of the baking of the last cake…

I have a feeling I wont be invited again afterwards lol Anyway Hopefully I am caught up now and can try and get some sleep seeing as its now 3.08am   Yawn!!!

Night Folks!!!

The old woman who lived in a shoe, How I can sympathise!!

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe

She had so many children she didn’t know what to do.

She gave them broth without any bread,

Then whipped them all soundly

And put them to bed.

Oh how I sympathise with this woman!

Looking after kids is kind of ‘kicking my ass’ (thanks for that eloquent expression Mr Brad Pitt). My children are aged between 26 and 5. Looking after 7 kids was a no brainier. The older 5 no longer live with me, but have taken their toll on my life.. The youngest two having had them in my 40’s… Being an older mum… WOW

Now it’s a whole new ball game. The days are fine. they are now at school. and I still never get anything done. I either have my dad round or I take the rare opportunity to go shopping child free. or *shock horror* have a social life as such and talk to friends, Ok I do the basic necessities in the house but by no means am I house proud.
It’s the weekends that are the worst though, Nothing at all gets done in the house, well nothing but washing of school clothes and cooking to feed everyone. These two boys are constantly hungry. Occasionally, they forget their evil plans and I find myself able to jump on the treadmill for an hour and actually have a tidy up and get some bits done around the house.  holidays are the worst… the house really suffers… Trying to keep them amused, take them out, or let them get on with just trashing the house, I either join in with them or try to let them take over the house, I mean what else can I do? Basically its days filled with doing laundry, cooking, and visiting playgrounds or indoor soft play area’s when its too cold to play out.

It’s the evenings that are slowly driving me insane.Every day at 4pm when they get home from school, someone replaces my nice, normal children with screaming, bitching, fighting, terrifying little monsters. The rooms that I spent hours cleaning are decimated in minutes. My floors are suddenly covered in so much crap I have to wade through them. (yes ok the dog is to blame for a lot of that, he loves raiding the recycle bag to find some cardboard boxes to chew..)

Throw in homework, , making dinner, Taking Alex to Karate and by 9pm I am a zombie. I swear that Allan thinks I’m being overly dramatic when he walks in the door each night to a trashed house and I feed him and the kids, get them to bed and then retreat in the corner of the front room by the pc to spend just five bloody minutes on Facebook. After all, I get to stay at home all day just trying to survive being an older mum.

I think the old woman in the shoe just wanted some damn peace and quiet so she could update her status. 🙄

My baby just turned 8 years old today! How did that happen already?

My baby is 8 today. Where has the time gone? I know that sounds so cliché’ but what else can I say? Time has gone by so quickly. From the day Alex was born, my life had a new meaning, He gave me a reason to live again,

8 years later nothing has changed. It’s been such a journey to watch him grow and become a “little dude” with a big personality.

I mean WOW!!

My baby boy is 8 years old today! So hard to believe!!

Where has another year gone? You are getting so big. You are such a jokester. You love to tell us jokes. You are so full of life and fun…and it’s so adorable to listen to you. You are so smart. A walking, talking encyclopedia. You love to learn new things and share what you’ve learned with us. You have excelled in your Karate, the fact that you have done so well so quickly has made us very proud , You are courageous. You are strong, yet gentle and sweet. Your smile lights up each day.

The day you were born was a new beginning for me, After the events of the year before you were born I really had lost hope in anything. I had lost everything, I really was beginning to feel I had nothing left to live for. And then you came into my life. you gave me hope again Son. I felt that need for life return to me so I could look after you and never let you leave my side….

and now 8 years has passed so quickly.

You have so many talents that your possibilities are endless and I am so excited to see where life takes you. I love that you are so passionate about sports, about learning and you try so hard at school.

The moment you were born my life changed forever and I could never imagine a life without you in it.

My wee baby is becoming a little man, with Attitude as well 🙄

Happy 8th Birthday Alex

I love you with all my heart xx

Fireworks went off with a Bang but one little man was not a happy bunny.

That time of the year is upon us again, Well it is if you british… November 5th is of course Bonfire night…

For 400 years, bonfires have burned
on November 5th to mark the failed Gunpowder Plot.

The tradition of Guy Fawkes-related bonfires actually began the very same year as the failed coup. The Plot was foiled in the night between the 4th and 5th of November 1605. Already on the 5th, agitated Londoners who knew little more than that their King had been saved, joyfully lit bonfires in thanksgiving. As years progressed, however, the ritual became more elaborate.

Soon, people began placing effigies onto bonfires, and fireworks were added to the celebrations. Effigies of Guy Fawkes, and sometimes those of the Pope, graced the pyres. Still today, some communities throw dummies of both Guy Fawkes and the Pope on the bonfire (and even those of a contemporary politician or two), although the gesture is seen by most as a quirky tradition, rather than an expression of hostility towards the Pope.

Preparations for Bonfire Night celebrations include making a dummy of Guy Fawkes, which is called “the Guy”. Some children even keep up an old tradition of walking in the streets, carrying “the Guy” they have just made, and beg passersby for “a penny for the Guy.” The kids use the money to buy fireworks for the evening festivities.

On the night itself, Guy is placed on top of the bonfire, which is then set alight; and fireworks displays fill the sky.

The extent of the celebrations and the size of the bonfire varies from one community to the next. Lewes, in the South East of England, is famous for its Bonfire Night festivities and consistently attracts thousands of people each year to participate.

Bonfire Night is not only celebrated in Britain. The tradition crossed the oceans and established itself in the British colonies during the centuries. It was actively celebrated in New England as “Pope Day” as late as the 18th century. Today, November 5th bonfires still light up in far out places like New Zealand and Newfoundland in Canada.

Anyway…………

Today November 2nd is when the school held its fireworks display, Now Jo, Allan and I took The boys and Adam last year and it was a really good display… so we thought we would do the same again this year.
Problem being Alex also Had Karate ..
My suggestion we all go to the fireworks , take Alex in his gear already for Karate and then take him to his lesson after the fireworks, He does a double one anyway so it wouldnt matter if he missed the first one…
But No… Allan decided it would be easier if he took Alex to Karate and Jo and I went with Ali and Adam.
I did say to Allan about Alex wanting to see the fireworks but he said he had already spoken to him and it was ok.
So off we all went in our separate ways…..
The fireworks although not bad didnt last long and we were home by 6.45 and they didnt start until gone 6pm.
Allan took Alex to Karate..
While we were at the fireworks we got Alex,Adam and Ali a sword that lights up to play with.. I of course got Alex one as I didnt want him to be left out…We get home, Ali goes to bed… Allan gets back with Alex about 9pm and when he found out we had been to the firework display at the school he got quite stressy about it,  Even though I had given him his light sword thingy..
He went to bed and just as Allan is having his dinner we could hear crying upstairs.. and I mean real crying.. I went up and Alex is really upset about missing the fireworks. so I told him we had done a video of them and taken some pictures.. and he could see them in the morning…  I came back down stairs but he still carried on crying..

Daddy went upstairs and the next thing I know is Alex is back down again.  He wanted to see the video… So after seeing the picturs and video and having a quick sandwich he went off to bed… I get the feeling we are not going to hear the last of this…
Life would of been so much easier if he had just missed that first Karate Lesson 🙄anyway here is the video (click the link)  and some pictures..

My Karate Kid has done it again :-)

Yay yet another grading nailed 🙂  Ok I do think the Karate Club is milking these gradings.. £15 a go, and each time its white strip, full colour, black strip… and onto the next colour.. so to explain… so far we have had

White belt….. starting point

Yellow Belt white strip

wearing his yellow belt white strip and holding the new yellow belt from the grading he has just passed 🙂

Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt Black strip

and now Orange belt white strip…..

But he loves going and going to the combat league… its “His thing” so to speak.. a place where he can escape from Ali,  Something that is his, Away from school, something that is totally another part in his life……
I Get That I really Do and the whole time he wants to go then we will find the money for him to go.

Proud Mummy Moment!!

I know I have mentioned it once or twice but Alex started doing Karate a few weeks before the summer holidays.. well he is really doing well

Not only does he go to his Karate lesson on a Wednesday evening he also goes once a month to Gillingham to take part in a massive Martial Arts combat league  where they do unarmed proper combat fighting and also they do weapons fighting…….

the first time he went he came 2nd in weapons and 3rd in unarmed combat

the second time he went he came 2nd in unarmed and 1st in weapons 🙂

Last Sunday he came 2nd in both……… but the kid that beat him was a green belt and 14 😯

He was gutted with himself for only coming second in the combat league this time round.. he came off the mats and the first thing he said to Allan who took him was “Dont Say A Word” 😦

I get the feeling he is going to be more determined than anything to do better at the end of next month!

Plus He has done his gradings once a month..

we missed the grading the first time because we couldn’t make it so the 31st of July he did his first one instead

he passed his 9th KYU with ease and got his yellow belt white stripe

four weeks later on 28th August he passed his 8th KYU and got his Yellow belt

and last Sunday on 25th September He got his 8th KYU ADVANCED which is is Yellow Belt with a Black Stripe 🙂

Considering there are people who have been going for months and months and are still white belts Im so proud of him.. and he loves going.
