Catching up after a busy week

So last week we went to Alex’s football presentation,  I baked 120 cakes, they all went, I made two trays of egg sandwiches with a hint of paprika, they all went.  I was the designated driver so Allan could have a drink as he had the last week off work,  two pints and he had, had enough, in fact, he left the majority of his second pint grrrrrrrrrrr 😡 😡
If I had known he was going to be a lightweight he could have driven because with it being two years since dad passed and being busy baking, making sandwiches etc I could certainly have had a drink, oh well I made up for it once we were home and had a couple of G&T’s 🙄 😯 anyway it was a lovely evening and as always Alex made us very proud. 😀

The rest of the last week we have been having a major declutter. and I mean major, we went through our bedroom, sorted stuff into piles, of either put away, get rid of or put in the loft, or give away,   we gave away the cot bed and all the baby related bits, such as clothes, walkers, travel cot, potty, you name it, that we had for when we had the adopted granddaughters ie, Shelby, Shannon and Georgia, stay over and then when Darren our grandson was born all the stuff we had for him.  all passed on via the free groups on facebook,  we even had bought a new cot bed mattress after the girls for Darren but it was never used as he was still in the travel cot when we last had him sleep over.

We even had a declutter of the front room getting rid of a nest of tables that were taking up room, sorting the boxes of wedding stuff that was left over that I hadn’t sold, into another two piles of to keep and put in the loft. or give away on the free groups, the junk that was for some reason kept by Allan as it may have a use and a broken coffee table went on the front garden with the old desk, a chair, a ripped PC chair, and one of my year old kitchen hydraulic kitchen stools that Alex had used and that had broken , 😡 that was in Alex’s room along with all the black sacks from the boys room of old toys, ripped books and very old and tatty stuffed toys that Ali could finally part with.  oh and the packing from the new tumble dryer I had to buy a few weeks ago.  needless to say, the front garden was piled high with junk and rubbish, and next door was starting to moan,   😳 The original plan was Allan was going to take it to the tip on Friday but despite him being on holiday he was called in, the same for today and tomorrow. so yesterday while he was at work Alex and I broke everything up,  we filled the car with the 15 bags of rubbish first, and the second tip run we took all the bits of wood and broken furniture.  This evening, before Allan gets in, the plan is to get as much as possible up in the loft, well get Alex to put as much as possible in the loft.

This week, well until payday on the 18th we are skint after direct debits and bills are paid, so I am trying to use as much as possible out of the freezer so some of our dinners will be a little funky, to say the least, sometimes there are a few bits of everything but not enough for all so I will be mixing it up a bit and there will be no trips out for the boys in their second week of the Easter holidays, not that they actually want to go anywhere.  maybe if Allan gets a day off we can go to the country park for a walk if the lovely weather holds out.  it’s like a lovely summers day out there today and tomorrow promises to be even warmer hitting 21°

How did I manage to get so much done in the last week, it’s simple,  my FB jail term was extended to 7 days 😡 for trying to comment on something when I thought my 3-day ban was up, now the only thing worst than not having internet access to get on facebook is to actually be able to see and read everything but not being able to comment, like or post,  hence actually getting on with things in the house 😆 although If I am honest, I could do with a 30 day ban to get this place sorted right out and do a major spring clean 🙄  😕 😆 😆

First Snow 2013

While the majority of the country is under snow we in the south east of England  usually only get a few flakes of snow.
Living in Sittingbourne Kent,  We have the Isle of Sheppey  near us and the weather usually hits the island hard.. goes over the  estuary and kind of bounces over the top of Sittingbourne and hits down again just before Faversham.. we do tend to be protected by the island… hence our lack of snow when a lot of surrounding area’s get it.

This is my theory not actually a proven fact but hey its as good as any other reason I have seen for us not getting the same weather as other villages around us 😉
Anyway much to my sons delight and I hope there is more to follow… I think there will be as its still snowing slowly.

Maybe the boys can get some use out of the Sledges we bought ages ago if it carries on tonight… I think we have the park planned for the morning.

Come on just enough for a quick play and they you can melt away or better still the cold front could go down under… they need all the help they can get…
Spare a thought for those in Australia, who are having the hottest weather ever and losing their homes and now a life due to the bush fires…

One extreme to another personally I would rather have cold and snow… at least we can wrap up when its cold.. you can only strip off to a certain extent in the heat.. but either weather extreme there are always the vulnerable who are going to suffer… 😦

Back garden fingers crossed we will have more in the morning

“I’m Melting . . . . I’m Melting . . . . I’m too fat for this weather”

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!! When it’s too hot to take the boys out of the house to go and play in the park in the middle of the day . . . . You know its hot… come on this is Kent we are used to the heat. hell it was 101 degree’s the summer I was pregnant with Alex… we are used to the sun, but the humidity its never been this bad. It can be overcast outside but still hot, muggy and humid..  the other day I was cooking a roast dinner.. (yes more fool me) and I was melting. ok I know if I lost a whole load of weight I would be more conformable and the diet has gone for a Burton at the moment.. will blog about that another time but even the kids are hot, sweaty and irritable.

I know we have had a rubbish summer really, a few nice days before the Easter holidays and then rain… and I mean rain, Seriously as soon as they brought in the hosepipe ban because of the drought.. it has poured down there have been floods everywhere, thankfully none near us… but rain has stopped a lot of play.

anyway, the day after the kids broke up from school for the summer holidays the sun came out.. ok we have had rain here and there but its been hot and humid… we went to chatham dockyard and the next day to a fun day and despite me smothering the kids in sunblock and myself I am the one who got burned… they are fine… I am still agony or itching like made… and the weather is still hot and humid… its too hot at the moment to take the kids out to the park in the day time. I don’t want them getting heatstroke so we are taking them out early evening time when it has cooled down.

we have the ceiling fan going constantly in the front room and the smaller fans going on in the bedrooms.. so sleep which is not one of the things I am really good at even at the best of times is getting harder and harder… I will wake up too hot… turn the fan on… wake up an hour later.. too cold or the noise is driving me mad and turn it off.. and this seems to go on until about 6am then I can sleep.

I cant wait until we go on holiday and get some fresh sea air.. and you know what the forecast is for while we are away hot but with …. yep bloody rain..

Got some Major catching up to do!

Well, what an end to the Easter Holidays!
It’s been quite A rollercoaster of events and no time for blogging.
So get yourself a cup of tea –
I have a feeling this blog may be a long one as we catch up on events from the past few weeks.

 Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin …

We had some fantastic weather the last week the kids were at school, it wasn’t bad the first five days they were off school but since then we have had nothing but cold and overcast, its seems the clouds had rolled in and we’ve been treated to week of over cast, cold weather, sometimes the clouds were so black I thought we were going to have some torrential rain… but no… we had five min’s of rain and that’s it…. the clouds moved on by…. And the hose pipe ban has come into force…. This will of course affect the garden this summer and what is going to be grown in it, Veg wise  But I will blog about that another day.

The problem with this weather is what to do with the kids..   Alex had decided that he wanted to take a break from his Karate so we agreed he could have the Easter Break off…  As it goes the Wednesday before they broke up from school he was really under the weather anyway so he has had three weeks off which to be honest has done him good I think he was getting over tired from it and its given his knee’s and legs a rest as well.  (one day I will go into what’s actually wrong with him in more detail )

The first week they were off we took them to the Chatham dockyard which they loved going back to, and of course their old favourite the spitfire and RAF Manston museum.
The other trip I had planned for them was on the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway
http://www.sklr.net/
for a trip but sadly that was cancelled because asbestos was found in a pipe running adjacent to the railway.

As it goes that day it was cold anyway so the boys were happy having a chill day.

We did go out to the park a couple of times so it wasn’t a bad week.

On the way up the park

A quick kick around

Oh and we went on an Easter egg hunt as well to Riverside Country Park, we also took our neighbours son Adam with us.. With the exception of him running off (but was found) the boys really enjoyed the trail although I have to say while the 20 odd questions were actually very hard for youngsters the prize was not very good at all, A little Mini Egg… I think next year I will find somewhere else to take them to.

Finding the Clues and Answering the Questions..

Collecting their naff prize either a silly plastic toy or a mini egg... wow and the trail took two hours for that?!?

Sunday of course was Easter Sunday now I am not religious at all but I do know what its like for kids when all their friends at school go on about how they got this and that on religious holidays so I have never deprived my boys of Christmas and Easter… except for the fact that its more an end of year present giving and pig out… and Easter is chocolate egg weekend lol

And with that in mind I decided that this year I would make them a basket each instead of just buying a chocolate egg, I was actually quite impressed with them.

Their eggs and baskets I made

I think this will become a new tradition in the house…… Maybe next year I wont do all chocolate though… I may add a little treat in instead.

Having been ill Again 😦 I am now back on the sofa although I am recovering much better this time.. thankfully it’s not gone onto my chest completely just more of a cold and cough. I have been told I have a very weak immune system since I got bronchitis last year and need to build myself up so I am now on a course of some major Vitamin  and iron and omega 3 capsules and it all seems to be helping as I am now fighting this bug off on my own without needing huge amounts of antibiotics and I am just about managing to cope in the day.

Alex has been asking to go to an amusement park for a while now and the idea of Alton towers really filled me with dread as I knew it would cost fortunes and the boys wouldn’t be able to go on much, however there is one place I had forgotten about until someone reminded me the other day when they were posting some pictures… Southend Adventure Island…  It’s Ideal Not that far from home… its wrist band entry so not silly money… So I looked on-line and they were doing a deal on wrist bands which can be used any time in the year so I have bought a couple of the red bands for them and I am tempted while they are on offer to get a couple of the green ones,  If the boys are too tall for the red ones then I can always upgrade them and if they are too small for the greens ones then Allan can go on the rides with them…. (Did you notice I said Allan there… well he knows nothing about it yet lol ). The good thing is they don’t run out until the end of 2012 so will save them for special treats when the weather does eventually get better…

Today is the last day off before the boys go back to school on Monday. I have to say on one hand I’m looking forward to it so I can start getting the house in some order but on the other hand not only is it back to the dreaded school run (which I may have mentioned I hate 🙄 ) but I will miss the boys… Although Ali has certainly had his challenging moments over the last two weeks.

Yesterday I had a trial run of a cake to make for this Cake Meeting… the theme is fruit and veg. so I thought the cake should contain both so had made an eggplant cake with strawberries… different and not that bad… We will also be making a carrot and ginger cake with lemon frosting.. Again Fruit and Veg…

I have noticed that the host is making an apple cake…. where is the veg in that… When I go if that is wall she has done I will ask what is the point in having a theme such as fruit and veg if it can be either after all anyone can make a normal carrot cake or a fruit cake..

Eggplant and Strawberry Cake

Oh and I will remember to put them right about who did most of the baking of the last cake…

I have a feeling I wont be invited again afterwards lol Anyway Hopefully I am caught up now and can try and get some sleep seeing as its now 3.08am   Yawn!!!

Night Folks!!!
